Welcome to my inaugural blog post! Thanks for visiting! My name is Michelle Wolfenden, and I am the Managing Attorney of the Wolfenden Law Firm, PLLC. I'm a Brewerton, NY native, and the daughter of hard-working, middle class parents who taught me by example that the opportunity to improve is always available to those who are willing to work hard and live humbly. I hope someday my two lunatics (kiddos) will have something similar to say about the way that my husband and I are raising them.
I am a graduate of the Central Square School District, and after high school, I was not sure what I wanted to do. So, I enrolled in Onondaga Community College, commuted from home, and got a couple of jobs to support myself. I worked as a medical receptionist and waited tables all throughout my time at OCC and then LeMoyne College, and continued to wait tables (great money!!) during summers in Law School.
My path to the law was circuitous at best, and if you are interested, I'd be happy to tell you the story over a cup of coffee someday. I never expected to be running my own law firm in my home town, but here I am, killing it!
In truth, I have found a true love of the law through my small town practice. Not the "Law and Order," take this case to the Supreme Court, abstract power of the law sort of love. I love the law because it helps me serve my community in concrete, albeit small, ways.
I have the honor of helping adorable young couples buy their first homes. I have the privilege of helping parents plan for the future by drafting their Wills and naming guardians for their kids. Most of whom I know because they go to school with my lunatics.
I get to help local businesses grow and protect their assets with Limited Liability Companies or Corporations. I get to help my neighbors who are down on their luck and facing the daunting foreclosure process.
I am able to help my enormous extended family in many different ways, which is so important to me because family is truly everything to me. And all it costs me is my time and expertise. What an amazing honor.
The law may be a path to power or great wealth for some, but for me it is a way to serve my community. I am truly grateful for every day that I get to walk into my little office and do the work that I do.
So that's me in a nutshell. I am a wife, mother, daughter, business owner and community member. I swear, the rest of my posts will not be so self-absorbed!
In future posts I plan to answer the questions that I hear most often from clients, friends and family to the best of my ability. So, please feel free to email me questions you would like to see answered at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave them in the comments to this and future posts.
